Is Your Computer Running Slow?

Here are some things to look at to determine what is causing the slow down:

  • Is your hard drive full? Try removing programs that you do not use any more and moving data to an external hard drive to free up space.
  • Do you have enough memory? Most computers need at least 512mb to run Windows XP with 1 GB being ideal and 1 GB to run Windows Vista/7 with 2 GB being ideal.
  • Did you just install new software? Your new software could be incompatible with your hardware. Check the hardware specifications for your software to make sure it is compatible.
  • Do you have viruses and/or spyware? Run your antivirus and spyware remover software. Remove all bad items from your computer, then bring it into Pc Healthstop to do a full cleanup on your machine. We can make sure that your computer is completely clean of infections.
  • Do you have multiple unnecessary programs on startup and/or multiple programs doing the same thing running in your background? Programs like instant messengers and photo loaders put themselves in your startup when you download them. Pull these programs from your startup and only run them when you need them. Make sure that you only have one antivirus. Having more than one antivirus program makes them attack each other rendering them useless, not to mention slowing down your machine tremendously. You should only use one firewall too. Windows has its own firewall that works well and you do not need another one on your machine. Routers have firewalls built in too.
